Markets are the key to reviving town centres

speciality cheese and organic farm foodsFlintshire council commissioned a report last year looking at ways of improving the fortunes of its town centres. The study concluded that markets in Mold, Holywell, Flint and Connah's Quay were a key feature to town centre redevelopment.

Flint is now reviving its market in an effort to entice shoppers back on to the town centre. Church Street in Flint is being closed to traffic on Fridays for the next three months to try to boost trade and there are free pitches available during this period.

Wrexham's town centre street market is now being held twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays. There is a waiting list for traders wishing to trade at the popular markets - Wrexham has three successful indoor markets.

Innovative night markets launchd

night markets for sheffieldThe first in a series of monthly night markets was held in Barker’s Pool, Sheffield on 11th April. The market features around 30 stalls and the emphasis is on local arts and crafts which have been made or manufactured by a Sheffield person plus food and drink stalls including some selling ice cream, chocolate and biscuits. Some shops are also staying open late into the evening.
